How to Set Up a Datafeed Site in Less Than 15 Minutes

Lunes, Noviembre 30th, 2009

Not too long ago, setting up a datafeed site was a complicated task. It was best to let a programmer deal with all the coding.

Now a days anyone can have a site built with datafeeds in less than 15 minutes. There are several scripts that are simple to install on a web hosting account and are easy to configure.

Probably the best and most convenient of these types of scripts are those which are plugins for the WordPress platform. All anyone has to do is upload such a script to their WordPress plugin directory then activate it on their dashboard.

From the settings tab, users first download or FTP datafeed feeds directly from an affiliate network that provides free feeds. One of the most popular of these networks is Shareasale.

Then to find products within these feed, users enter the keywords that are related to the theme of their site. In a matter of seconds, product pages are created displaying pictures, product descriptions and affiliate links.

Some scripts are a little more sophisticated. They can time the posting of product pages at future days. That way it will appear to the search engines that the website is providing its visitors with fresh content and should get the search engine bots constantly crawling the site.

There’s a little more to it about these scripts but basically they do for affiliate marketers what once was a painful and time consuming chore best left to someone with a background in database programming.

the basic steps to publishing your first web site:

1. create the html: hyper text markup language a.k.a. html , allows you to see the format of the page. tags in the source of the page tells the browser how to display the page on the screen. but not all browsers are created equal they will display the page differently but for the most part the page will look pretty much the same. some programs do not use the same color pallets , that changes the way a page is displayed in the browser. also some people change the way they see the web pages on their own systems to increase speed of pages loading to their screens , so they will see a page differently.

2. obtain or create graphic images and add to your page. images you created yourself ie:photos you have taken digitally or traditionally (35mm). or you can visit sites where people share images here you can either buy images and in some places get them for free. and use programs like paint shop to create your own or edit the images you purchase off of graphic sites.

3. link the graphics using html tags to your page this way they appear where you want them to. the quality of the image effects loading time to your page so if possible keep the images small then create a link to where the image can be viewed on it’s own larger if the viewer decides they want to view it in more detail. doing this keeps people from exiting your page due to slow loading.

4. preview your page in your web browser and other browsers , see how it looks to you. sometimes you see it with rose colored glasses , leave it for a day and come back and view it again the next day. are you still happy with the way it looks?

5. find a space on a web server a.k.a. host. if its a personal site that is not too big you can go to geocities , google page creator , or aol.com in any of these places you can post a personal website however there is a limit what you can do on the service because it is free. if you go beyond what they allow they will remove your site. read the agreement , and follow their rules. for business sites you will want to find paid hosting. this can really differ in price depending on the web host and the package you choose. take some time when doing this you want to know what you will be getting for your money. look around , compare services and prices if a host doesn’t have a feature you need keep looking. if the package they offer looks great type in “hosting + review” into a search and see what other people are saying about the service. you can also set up your own private server but that takes a lot of technical know how and if it is something that you really want to consider there are many pit falls to but also a great number of bonuses way the pros and cons.

6. use file transfer protocol a.k.a. ftp to transfer your html files and graphic files to the web server. always remember to have your files marked as “public_.html” otherwise they will not be any good on the server , if you make a mistake some tech help on your host could fix the problem but it’s best to learn how to do it yourself.

7. get online. check to see that your web site is working properly. click the links on you site to make sure they are work and get take you exactly where you had intended them to. broken links frustrate visitors or guests (as i like to call them) to your site and what will hurt more is that the spiders (or web crawlers) that come to index your pages really don’t like links that don’t work and could be penalize your site for it.

by using these seven steps you will have your first web site up and running in a short amount of time. it’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it and if you do your research. remember not to just throw the pages together because they will not serve you well if you do. happy surfing.

Make A Website Tonight

Lunes, Noviembre 30th, 2009

When you learn that more than a million people a day are

getting online for the first time each day, you will

understand why more than 10,000 new websites are created

each day.

Not everyone who gets online makes a website right away, but

eventually, everyone wants to make a website. Some want to

share their photos, some want to discuss something, others

want to sell something. It’s such a popular activity that

leading schools now teach it.

php development india

When I first went online, making a website was easy, if you

knew how to use a text editor. The sites were simple, yet

effective.

Things have changed a lot since then, and now there are so

many ways to make a website, it can be very confusing when

you first get started.

I learned this through my mom. She wanted to make a

quilting site, and was asking a lot of questions. I thought

rather than leave her in the dark, I would sit down with

her, and show her how I make a website.

In two short hours, she had a brand new website. One she

absolutely loved. And of course, she had more questions -

that’s the nature of websites.

After helping my mom make her website, I thought I would put

that same information together in a bunch of short videos,

so everyone that wanted to make a website could learn what

she learned that day.

Of course, when you go online, you can find thousands of

offers to help you get started. Just be careful with them,

and watch out for these pitfalls:

1. You don’t own the site.

If you don’t own the site, then they are making money from

your work, and that’s not fair.

2. You can add photos, videos and sound.

For some reason, a lot of instant site services don’t

support the basics. Make sure you can add photos and even

sound and video.

3. New features

Can you add things you think of in the future? Many sites

won’t let you add stuff unless they offer it to everyone -

and that is a dumb idea.

The absolutely best way to make a website is to know how to

do it yourself, and I recommend you take an hour or two and

learn how. It will be information that serves you for a

lifetime.

website development - act as a user

Sábado, Noviembre 7th, 2009

there are some thousands of websites that are not doing good business. and almost half of them have a badly designed website. it is not that the website doesn’t have features , or that the content is not carefully selected. even after all those features are present in the website , the site just does not click , the reason behind this failure is lack of presentation skills and the mistake of not creating the website for the users.

yes , it is very important that your website development is done keeping the user in mind. many a times , designers tend to get so engrossed in the development aspect of the websites that they forget the need of keeping the user in mind. most of the websites that do not flourish tend to do the same mistake , they tend to keep the user somewhere in the corner and design the whole website according to their own understanding.

content is considered to be the king of internet. and why not , after all they are the rulers of your website. your website is dead if there is no content in the site. even while conducting your website development it is necessary to add easy and understandable content into the website. the content in your website acts as a guide to your visitors , who will lead them from one place to another. hence the website content must always be to the point and simply written so that it is easily comprehend able by anyone who reads it.

easy content makes the navigation practice half easy. the rest half is left on navigation. web developers tend to deign the website according to their understanding which is obviously much higher in this regard as compared with the first time or second time users. if the navigation of the website is not simple and approachable the user will not wish to stay online , as they will not be able to connect well with the layout. this is the reason why , it is suggested that while planning out your website development plan keep the layout simple.

designing , content and layout are not the only aspects of website development. the software applications and other applications that are added to the website are also crucial and must be user friendly. talking especially about the shopping portals that have billing infos , and other forms are built so complicatedly that a layman will never be able to buy from it. these forms therefore , must be made such , that they should be easily understood and less time consuming too.

php strategy

another irritating feature for users in a website is slow downloads. sitting on the other side of the table we do not understand but the slow downloads are really irritating and must be checked. reducing the font size , the mailing server and also the images in the website , all need to be carefully reduced in size so that the download is faster.

10 Quick Website Maintance Tips

Martes, Noviembre 3rd, 2009

1. Keep all your images in a subfolder. If your file is something.com/index.html, then your images for that should be in something.com/images/

2. Save a template for creating new pages. Create a page that has all your website design elements, including your menu and header, but lacks content. Then, when you create a new page, start out by copying that template.

3. Use some sort of CMS for frequently updated pages/sections. For example, if you have a news page, set up some blog software to make updating it much easier.

4. For pages that may have a lot of material added in the future, set the pages up so they can expand vertically. In most cases, you don’t want your design to be set up where the page cannot expand vertically. Instead, the design needs to be set up where more content later won’t break it.

5. When referring to periods of time, use absolute terms. For example, instead of saying I wrote an article 1 month ago, I would say I wrote it in May, 2006. That way I don’t have to go back later and change the number of months. Also avoid words like “recently,” “yesterday,” and “soon.”

6. If you do update a page frequently, make a back up copy each time you’re getting ready to update it.

7. Keep a list (whether it’s posted on your website or not) of the exact pages you’ve changed, when you changed them and what you changed.

8. If you have a page with pictures, make sure you keep any new pictures the same width and/or height as the others. Which one of those looks best will vary from layout to layout.

9. If you have a prominent picture on your front page, change it out every once in awhile. Make sure the new one is approximately the same size, though.

10. Don’t use a lot of different colors and sizes in your fonts. And don’t have tons of bold and italicized words and sentences. That detracts greatly from the professionalism of your site.
