I have to be different from most of the other reviewers and give this movie a fat 5 stars. It is one of my favorites. As a obsolete hookup man, crew chief, flight engineer, and door gunner, I have seen exactly the type of character assortment and wacky actions that this film portrays. There is always one that is timid of dying. There is always AT LEAST one hung over person, usually with a barf bag within approach. There is always the one that tries to hotfoot herd on the rest and support them paying attention to their job. There is always one glory hound that feels he must accept a shot at everybody’s job so he has bragging rights when he gets home. So this state of characters is totally credible and all were played with astounding skill. I like them all, even the jerk.

As for historical accuracy, it is not just. They based the legend on the Memphis Belle, but incorporated all the incidents and accidents that happened to the flying fortresses. If it didn’t happen to the Belle, her crew witnessed it. In my idea, the movie is made better for this. It also serves to educate people about the realities of WWII bomber flights. I’m all for that. The public needs to be made aware that these men went through a hell that most cannot open to imagine. Thus, this movie performs a considerable function.

As for the entertainment value … it is top of the line. You will feel the distress and dodge the shrapnel! The anti-aircraft rounds produce me find in snappy motion! I especially like the piece about the monkey harness and can identify fully with it. The pilot always had to force me to keep mine on, and like the guy in this movie, it saved my bacon once. There’s fair no comparison to flapping in the amble beneath an aircraft while other crewmembers try to haul you aid aboard. (But you’ll never have to be told to achieve on your monkey harness again!) Thus, I identify and empathize with his set … literally!

I watched this sizable movie with wonder at all the restored vintage B-17 bombers old in the filming. When one watches as they remove off and land with such risky imprecision, it’s great to realize how far we’ve near technologically since those perilous days of daylight bombing by the Americans (the Brits went at night) and the murderous losses over German skies. All of this as depicted was before we developed the P-51 with its grand longer range and its ability to escort the bombers to the target place to fend off Luftwaffe fighters who shot down so many bombers in 1942, 1943, and 1944.

This is a extraordinary movie, very moral, authentic, and quite provocative. Starring Matthew Modine as the Pilot of the fabled “Memphis Belle”, the first bomber crew to do its mission tour and be returned to the states (to sell war bonds, among other things), is retells the extraordinary fable of how thousands of kids as depicted here went off to England to sail thousands and thousands of planes through the dangerous skies of Europe in a sustained peril to bomb the Third Reich into submission. The writing for the first season of Burn Spy was marvelous, very tight with engrossing characters and situations. However, towards the raze, a lot of fans were fearful. Some of the helpless clients of the week were starting to feel a touch repetitive.

The second season unbiased finished, and I can assert you that the writing is even better, the characters stronger, and many of the anecdote lines more compelling, than in the first season. It’s no wonder the note has doubled its viewing audience. I particularly like how the characters have evolved. Michael has dealt with some of his family issues, gotten closer to his brother, and understands that his mother really does care about him–even if that’s easier to recall when she’s not blowing cigarette smoke (literally) in his face. The awful guys are organized and vivid, which means he have to be even smarter. It’s agreeable account telling.

However, even with all the other positives that made me pre-order the DVD status as soon as it was possible, there are several particular episodes that stand out from the rest, which alone are worth the label of the DVDs. One of these involves Michael Westin trapped inside a bank during a robbery with a government agent, Bly, whom he blackmailed the first season and who hates Michael’s guts. Watching the respect invent between the two, and the diagram they wind up working together — not to mention Michael Westins intention of dealing with the robbers — is exquisite. It’s nothing you’ve ever seen before. It’s not Die Hard and it’s not like The Ransom of Red Chief (where a minute boy makes kidnappers regret ever taking him to the point they wind up paying the parents to seize him befriend) . From originate to accomplish, the robbers never figure out that they have a tiger by the tail. The only one with a clue how unsafe that Westin can be is Bly, who had read Westin’s dossier in season 1 and has been dancing abet and forth with him to contemplate who can top whom. What can one say about this astounding character? Played by Michael Shanks in a recurring role, Victor took us through the gamut. We went from hating him and thinking he is a psychopath wavering on the edge of sanity (you were never quite distinct how he was going to react to things), to realizing he was an incredibly tragic character and a cautionary sage of what Michael could have been in other circumstances. The emotional roller coaster we piece with the characters on shroud as we learn of Victor’s abet chronicle (which comes out in the finale) and resulting changes in his relationship to Michael Westin is legend telling at its best.

I have not been a fan of Michael Shanks in the past. However, his acting here is truly inspired. It goes far beyond anything I’ve seen him do other than in “The Arc of Truth” in the prison scene when Shanks’ character, Daniel Jackson, finally gives up hope. It is beneficial of an Emmy. Moreover, even with the already astronomical supporting cast of Bruce Campbell (always worth watching and allowed some mammoth scenes in the 2nd season), Sharon Gless (as Michael’s mother who smokes while exercising to Jack LaLanne–which you have to behold to realize how comic that is), and Gabrielle Anwar (as the explosive Fiona), there’s something magical about the chemistry between Shanks and Donovan that seems to kick Donovan’s acting–already extraordinary–up a notch to a level seldom seen on the diminutive conceal. And if the ending is unsightly, the choices made surprising to the viewer, one cannot assist but feel that the characters have been changed forever by this experience and nothing will be quite the same again. Perhaps best of all, it makes the viewer asks of season 3, what’s next? Because if there’s one thing the writers, actors, and producers have shown us, it’s that they understand noble record telling, and can be trusted to build choices that will sustain us on the edge of our seats, coming benefit for more.

I highly recommend this DVD site, especially if you haven’t seen the exhibit on TV. Although most of the myth lines could work as stand-alones, there is an on-going account arc (of how and why Michael got burned and what he’s doing to net his life benefit) that makes more sense if you spy them in order. The extras on the season 1 DVD position were first-rate (including Donovan and Anwar’s audition tapes), and I ask them to be equally safe here. So far, I know of at least one extra that should be a lot of fun. Michael Shanks has reported recording a commentary track with Bruce Campbell and Matt Nix.

I command for many fans when I say I can hardly wait for June, and the begin of season 3 on USA network! Thank goodness Donovan’s contract has been extended for another 6 years (total 8 seasons)! I fancy this prove!

Mike, Fiona, and Sam are an outstanding group who are always getting into more effort than they bargained for, yet somehow manage to develop their device through the various encounters with a grin and a chuckle.

I’m a steady fan of dry humor, though I can never pull it off. The only time people laugh at me is when I’m being serious. My jokes- when I try to be laughable -all plunge flat- and nobody can disclose when I’m serious or fair kidding. My coworkers would impart you that it makes for an ‘interesting’ working relationship (if they’re being nice) . I… don’t know what it is.

So - when I came across this indicate, I started watching the reruns from the first season, as a run-up to the 2nd season… and I’ve been really enjoying the point to. It seems to be very educating - there are things that are presented here that I never idea about - in each episode… I peep a different diagram of thinking about things, a different map to do things, find things accomplished.

Things never quite turn out how I interrogate them to, or go off in directions that I didn’t anticipate. Then again, I’m a computer guy: what I know about people you can fit on a (corner of) a postcard.

I adore the demonstrate because of the dry banter, impartial the lawful amount of conflict (I give it a PG10 for the average American), and the unusual method of thinking about things. Oh. The acting is outstanding, the dialogue is shapely and very well done.

“El Mariachi” is one astounding debut from director Robert Rodriguez. Despite it being made on such a rude budget, the impression we are given is that it was shot by a pro and not by a first-time director. Rarely do we procure to bare observe to such an outstanding debut from a promising director that has all the proper ingredients in it.

The tale centers around a simple man with a positive passion–to be a well-established “Mariachi.” He dresses in dismal and carries a guitar case with him everywhere he goes. A very passive individual, the Mariachi wants to be at peace without having to deal with any troubles. Well, effort comes looking for him when there’s a case of inaccurate identity. Another man that dresses in sunless and carries a guitar case is causing major problems for a well known drug-dealer. The dissimilarity with this person is that in his guitar case is not a guitar–it is filled with numerous types of weapons, from firearms to knives. Forced into an inconceivable conflict, the simple life of the Mariachi turns into one that is filled with violence and bloodshed.

This very well-constructed independent film resembles a original day Western. The film quality may not be at its absolute best, but the feel of the film is one that gives you an impression of a very talented director. You never know what’s going to happen next in this unpredictable film. The film is not in English, so you will have to deal with subtitles if you don’t know Spanish. Serene, do not let that fright you away. The subtitles are very easy to follow and the movie flows nicely with them. It may feel weird for the first few minutes, but in very small time you will net yourself not even noticing that you’re watching subtitles. That’s how spicy the movie is, and that is the kind of power that it holds.

With a cast rotund of “unknowns,” the acting is very solid and makes the anecdote work. Carlos Gallardo is obedient in his role of the “Mariachi.” He looks like a very innocent person but then can transform into a vicious fighter when pushed into a tight corner. Rodriguez does a distinguished job with this movie. You can negate that he is a man who knows what he wants in a movie. He also proves to be quite the storyteller. He was able to do a lot with such a improper budget. It’s ironic that sizable budget is almost always spent on the most horrendous movies nowadays (not all, but a heavenly amount) .

The DVD has some frigid things to offer. It’s been remastered in a novel film transfer that was supervised by the director. The portray looks more than decent, and I am distinct that it looks considerable better than it did when it was first released. Extras included are commentary, a “10-Minute Film School” featurette, a sneak peak of “Once Upon a Time in Mexico,” and a couple of trailers. Overall, a very nice DVD package for a film made on a budget this.

Robert Rodriguez’s “El Mariachi” is a graceful film that’s both thrilling and dramatic. It’s a enormous film to glimpse if you’re tired of the usual “rubbish” out there and want something original and novel. One of the most titillating things about El Mariachi (not to seize away from the film itself) is that no one can seem to approach to agreement on whether Rodriguez’ next big-screen movie, Desperado, is a sequel or a remake to this, his first feature film. After finally getting around to seeing El Mariachi, I’ll give you the definitive answer: who knows?

In many ways, if you’ve seen Desperado (and if you live in America and you’re reading this, you’re far more likely to have seen it than El Mariachi), you’ve seen this movie. Many of the sets are the same. (The bar Carlos Gallardo walks into when he first reaches town actually caused me a chuckle. I expected to view Cheech Marin late the counter. And, in fact, the barman in this movie makes almost exactly the same moves Marin does in Desperado when the shooting starts.) Some things, like the kid, are treated differently in the two movies, but that’s not queer in remakes. Certainly more accepted than it is in sequels. And yet there are enough differences in the region to create you wonder.

In any case: El Mariachi, made noted three years later by Antonio Banderas, is played here by Carlos Gallardo, (co-producer and production manager on this film as well, and who has remained co-producer with Rodriguez on the other two Desperado films) . He’s traveling around the Mexican countryside looking for work as a mariachi. Unfortunately, unbiased as he’s getting to town, a jailbreak is occurring; Azul (Reinol Martinez) and his henchmen overpower three hired killers sent to rub him out by his old-fashioned partner, Moco (Peter Marquardt), who’s now living it up as a drug runner. Needless to say, Azul wants revenge, and Moco wants to end him. Problem: Azul’s trademark is that he always dresses in shadowy and carries a guitar case… unbiased like a mariachi.

It would probably be heretical to go so far as to compare El Mariachi (which Rodriguez made on a budget of seven thousand dollars) to Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors, but there you have it. Moco’s henchmen consistently mistake the mariachi for the assassin and vice versa, and after a while, the viewer’s not quite definite who’s who, either. (For a kid with a guitar, the mariachi definite does handle an Uzi well.) The movie does its job well enough in mixing laughs with the action to acquire it watchable, despite the fact that it has, really, no region worth talking about, very small characterization, and was more an excuse for ninety minutes of action and love camerawork than anything else. Since Rodriguez added all the missing elements in Desperado (and, it should be famous, every actor mentioned above-and most of the others in El Mariachi-reprise their roles in Desperado, thus adding to the remake feel of the latter film), we’re willing to lop him a microscopic unhurried here. After all, when you have a budget of seven large, you probably don’t have too noteworthy spare film stock to do a lot of test takes.

What really makes El Mariachi a pleasure, though, is that it contains the raw ingredients that Rodriguez would later hone into the distinctive style that he has today. He was obviously great influenced by the Three Stooges films, but he never allows the camera trickery to go overboard the scheme they consistently did, playing it for laughs for a few seconds at a time at most. Time speeds up and slows down during repetitive scenes to hold the audience from getting bored, characters rep out of sticky situations in the silliest of ways, and everyone has a agreeable time unless they’re getting shot. (And you sometimes wonder then, too.) Ten years later, it’s a bit hard to understand how El Mariachi (with the exception of the climactic scene, which probably ragged up ninety percent of the movie’s special effects budget) could have been considered a shockingly violent film; remember, this was released the year after Terminator 2. The body count is high, to be definite, but the violence in the film definitely contains a campy/cartoon quality to it. It seems sure in hindsight that Rodriguez wanted to play up the comedy angle here. He got his chance to do the violence angle in Desperado.

So is it a sequel? Is it a remake? I have no view. But it’s a load of fun, and that’s what counts. *** 1/2

I popped in this DVD very wary of how I would feel about an dilapidated childhood current after years of not seeing it. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that the film is unruffled a lot of fun. Yes, a lot of the effects (blue cloak, etc.) are unconvincing and explain their age, but geeeez, the movie’s almost 40 years used so what can you inquire. This was a genuine stunner in it’s day and Harryhausen’s stop-motion sequences unruffled outshine any monotonous CGI execute in today’s cookie-cutter movies (objective gawk at the dreadful modern TV remake with all those cheesy computer effects — there’s no contest!) The skeleton battle is most notorious, but I have a special fondness for Talos which was the first scene that caught my recognize as a young kid on Saturday afternoon TV in the behind 60’s. Contented to look that “Jason” peaceful has it’s magic (along with some acceptable campiness) and the DVD is a nice presentation (there are some exiguous flaws to the print materials and grain in some scenes) . The Harryhausen interview (with John Landis) is captivating and the unique trailer is also included on the DVD.

I’ve reviewed quite a few films featuring the work of special effects artist Ray Harryhausen and found reasons to like them all, but Jason and the Argonauts (1963) features some of his most astonishing effects, and is considered to be one of the greatest fantasy pictures ever made. Would I say it’s the greatest? No, but in terms of influencing many, including a majority of special effects artists in the business today, this film is a cinematic landmark, and deserves to be treated as such. Produced by long time Harryhausen collaborator Charles Schneer (The Valley of Gwangi, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Clash of the Titans) and directed by Don Chaffey (One Million Years B.C., Pete’s Dragon), the film stars Todd Armstrong in his biggest role, but not his remark, as that was dubbed over by Tim Turner, a British actor who did a lot of boom over work on film trailers, including the trailer for this film. Also appearing is Nancy Kovack (The Silencers), and a whole bunch of British actors including Gary Raymond (El Cid), Laurence Naismith (The Valley of Gwangi), Niall MacGinnis (Night of the Demon), Jack Gwillim (Patton), Nigel Green (Countess Dracula), and Honor Blackman (Goldfinger), to name a few.

As this fantasy myth begins, we observe the dilemma of Jason as an infant, his father slain and kingdom usurped, as so the seemingly fickle Gods have decided. Jason grows up, returns to re-take the land and peoples that are rightfully his, only to be sent on a quest, by the Gods (geez, who died and made them Gods? Oh yeah…they ARE Gods), to recover a golden fleece, one that would bring peace and prosperity to the horrified land. Only jam is the fleece is across the world, to where no one has sailed before. To meet this goal, Jason has the finest ship built, and gathers the greatest athletes Greece has to offer, and sets out on a dangerous race that involves perilous waters, worthy bronze titans, a deadly, multi-headed Hydra, an army of skeleton warriors (can seven really be considered an army? Maybe more like a task force…), and treachery within his beget ranks, among other things (as if that wasn’t enough) . The quest seems an impossible one, but with Jason’s determination, the loyalty of his men (the non-treasonous ones, of course), and even a tiny succor from the Gods themselves, he unbiased may be able to survive and return with the care for to reclaim what is rightfully his, and bring and ruin to the tyrant reign that has plagued his lands for the past twenty weird years.

Alright, I will say some of the acting isn’t all that vast (actress Kovack seems to be on some kind of depressant, as her performance is about as deadpan as I’ve seen), and some of the non-Harryhausen special effects are extremely noticeable (the matte usage in some scenes stands out a lot more than they probably would have liked), but despite these points, this is really a fun and gripping movie. There are elements of the fable missing (the 2000 television CGI-laden version starring Jason London was a bit more inclusive in this respect, but lacked the charm, for me at least, of this one), but the makers of this film did manage to cram a lot into its’ 104 itsy-bitsy running time, and the suitable direction kept the anecdote spicy along at a rousing go, rarely slowing down, and keeping my interest. I did be pleased the sets (especially those on Mount Olympus, and I have to say, Honor Blackman makes for one sexy Goddess, playing Hera, Zeus’ wife…hotchie momma!) and the plot shots where fantastic, adding a lot to the account. The Argo (the boat that carried Jason and his crew, hence the term `Argonauts’) was obedient, although that figurehead of Hera (she was one of the Gods assisting Jason) freaked me out, especially with the opening an closing of its’ eyelids. And I can’t review this film without mentioning the work of legendary Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann (Citizen Kane, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Day the Earth Stood Serene, Psycho, Taxi Driver) …well, I mentioned him…but seriously, it’s handsome rare to accumulate a composer as `in tune’ with the material he’s working with as Herrmann (consider how different Psycho would be without its’ terrifying regain) . The best parts of the film, by far, are the stop-motion effects by Harryhausen. What makes his work so salubrious, in my view, is not only his gaze for meticulous detail (it would often assume months to execute a 3 or 4 miniature on hide segment of stop-motion work), but also his ability to execute the appropriate movements for the characters he was presenting. An example within the context of the film is Talos, the bronze titan, compared to, say, the winged harpies. The character of Talos moved exactly how you would quiz a giant made of bronze to recede, rigid, lumbering, and generally boring, compared to the very fluid and inviting movements of the winged harpies, or even the multi-headed Hydra creature. It’s the supposition of how the creatures would fade, infused with the created models that state Harryhausen apart from his peers, and made him a myth in his contain time, influencing so many others that came after him. It’s ravishing rare to leer stop-motion work in major films nowadays, as it’s been replaced with computer generated images (which is probably cheaper and less time enchanting, but can often appear fair as unrealistic as lesser stop-motion work) .

First off ignore the reviews from peeps who read a product listing with no clue of the real product. The dvd comes with English dub and japanese audio, along with subs. If you read between the lines the product description does say dubbed. I am distinct Amazon will fix the error in the audio share when enough of you complain. As far as the dvd what can I say its Naruto, so it totally rocks. I like English dub, my daughter likes to peep the Japanese with subs so we are both tickled with this release. And yes I gotta adore the fact we score original release’s early due to family that work in the good places, so delight in this one when the rest of you procure the chance. It totally ROCKS!

I rated this a 3 because the listing says that the movie is in Japanese language with English subtitles, but the coming soon was in English. Is the listing deplorable and it is in both Japanese and English language? Someone please let me know. Or Amazon please update the listing to originate it positive. Thanks.

This movie is nowhere come as flashy or as piquant as Spike Lee’s “Malcolm X”. It presents a more crude key and gritty narrate of a man quietly going on with his life’s work even while sparkling that someone has marked him for death. The lack of Hollywood flair makes this movie feel more realistic than Spike Lee’s film, like you’re actually walking around the city with Malcolm. Peaceful I missed the sense of energy that Denzel Washington brought to the role. Freeman’s Malcolm is someone you like and respect, but he doesn’t charismatically contrivance you into his vision like Washington did in his portrayal, or perhaps like the sincere Malcolm did. In any case this DVD is worth seeing for its sense of realism, which perhaps serves as something of a counterbalance to visions of Malcolm X, the demi-god of our imagination, when after all he was a flesh and blood man, albeit a man of ample vision, courage and charisma.

Malcolm X is an well-known figure in American history and Morgan Freeman is resplendent actor, but this movie objective didn’t work for me. If you know the basic account and events of his life, this movie doesn’t really command you anything recent. Why build a movie of only the last 24 hours of his life? There is so great to be learned in the years before that. I recommend the Spike Lee film and the Autobiography of Malcolm X instead. They will express you grand more about the dimension of the man than this short film can.

What sets “Top Gun” apart from similar military film fare of the 80s is its ability to combine a sense of the miraculous within the gritty world of tougher than tough obstacles. The dog fight footage is thrilling and the space moves effortlessly from drama, to melodrama, to action/adventure story on testosterone overdrive. There’s even a shirtless examine candy volleyball tournament thrown in, with the guys doing their machismo best to ignite interest in the female population. There are no digital anomalies (edge enhancement, pixelization, colorful of splendid details) for a level-headed video presentation that is distinct to please. The audio has been remixed but continues to note that dated 80s quality that is best left to nostalgia for a time when sound wasn’t quite so integral to one’s overall appreciation of movie culture. Extras include an audio commentary that is adequate at best. There’s also a 6 fraction documentary that really should have been played as one mountainous one, four music videos which will confound people as to why MTV became so large, and some storyboards, production materials and vintage featurettes. So place your DVD player to `cruise’ control and find ready to site off for the wild blue yonder. “Top Gun” is a blast!

Im an a enormous fan of the Coen brothers and their work. Fargo and Barton Fink are by far two of my approved movies ever made, and the brothers are on my list of all time common directors. Their films are dusky and humorous and some are very well written and shot. They have a style that separtes them from the norm of most Hollywood directos/writers and it has shown succesfull over the years giving them the nickanme “Hollywoods two headed director”. I have been putting buying most of their films however for a long time because of costs (Ultimatley I would have liked to engage all of their films) . This is a mountainous box situation for those who have patiently waited like me, or are unprejudiced getting into Coen films. Granted I already owned two of the films, but I unprejudiced passed them on to my dad, who has never previously seen any of their films and now is enjoying them himself. The strong points are indeed Fargo, Barton Fink and Raising Arizona. Blood Simple was the brotehrs first film and is on its maintain a terrific debut. The Coens scheme heavily from film noir and sad comedy to execute their films modern. Many might complain huge Coen films such as The Large Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou? are not included, but is simply because they dont fit the chosen selection. And those are the only two other Coen films I would recommend one find to have a advance complete Coen Brothers collection.

As for the film quality, they seem to be the same prints as the individually sold dvds and there are no extra features other than what has previously been released. The mark of course is very reasonable (averaging $8-$9 a disc) and comes in thin jewel cases with a rather nice box.

The Coen brothers — Joel and Ethan — burst onto the scene with 1984’s “Blood Simple”, a slow-moving noirish crime drama that expanded the universe of those films in ways most Americans were not familiar. It I was the one packaging this, I’d have deleted “Raising Arizona” and added “The Sizable Lebowski”, a better comedy and a film that features a great better cast than “Arizona”. But that’s microscopic potatoes because, for less than $35, you have win a handful of the Coens’ best early films for home enjoyment anytime you want, including their huge masterpiece “Fargo”, an American Film Institute top 100 movie that takes dwelling in their hometown and is based on events that really happened.

The Appaloosa - (Brando does western) a western in the “spagetti” genre…marvelous narrative, and very attractive.

A countess from Hong Kong…(Brando does comedy) …directed by Charlie Chaplin! Appears to be more of a 40’s screwball comedy, it holds up and is amusing and titillating. Chaplin’s son, Sydney is hiliarious in one particular bar scene and one can devour the cameo of Charlie himself as a ship’s steward.

The Night of the Following Day - (Brando does a Hitchcock-like thriller) a taught thriller with a “never looked better than this” Brando enthusiastic in a kidnapping region.

All in all this is a top-notch collection, especially for those who do not have any of these films. One would query to gather any of these titles alone at around $15 each so the trace of less than $20 is an added bonus!

3.) A COUNTESS FROM HONG KONG (1967 — 108 minutes) : It’s fun to eye Brando in an atypical role in this laughable slapstick romantic comedy. Sophia Loren stars as a Russian countess who stows away in a rich American’s (Brando) stateroom on a coast liner to sprint a life of forced prostitution. Teppi Hedron is also on hand. This was director Charlie Chaplin’s last film; he went into a depression after its box-office failure. The plight I have with this flick is that it’s completely set-bound on the waft liner; in fact, practically the entire film takes location in Brando’s quarters. Personal Rating: 2.5/5 Stars.

4.) THE APPALOOSA (1966 — 98 minutes) : This is Brando’s ’spaghetti western,’ released at the height of this sub-genre’s popularity. John Saxon stars as the villain who steals Brando’s horse after severely beating him up while in a drunken stuper. Ajanette Comer plays the babe. The Southwestern scenery is spectacular! The best arrangement I can picture this film is to imagine one of Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns as if it were actually any obedient in terms of narrative. Let’s face it, although Leone introduced a wintry current style to the western genre, his film’s STORIES were honestly quite unmemorable. If you disagree, try sitting through “The Profitable, the Abominable and the Grisly” in one sitting without falling asleep. Or how about the two “Dollars” movies? I’ve seen them both a couple of times and can’t remember anything about their right storylines. “The Appaloosa” is essentially a revenge memoir entailing Brando’s hobble to Mexico to acquire his horse wait on and extinguish Saxon. I wasn’t all that impressed with the sage the first time I saw it, especially since I understandably compared it with Brando’s western masterpiece “One-Eyed Jacks” (a great precursor to the spaghetti western) . I saw it again recently and it dawned on me: The director and writer were NOT shooting for a run-of-the-mill western. In the mid-to-late 60’s it became fashionable to compose films as gritty and ultra-realistic as possible (disregarding Sergio Leone’s westerns, which often contained goofy elements) . Such was the case with “The Night of the Following Day” listed above (and to a lesser extent “The Repulsive American”) ; this is also the case with “The Appaloosa.” What would happen in Trusty life if a man went to Mexico in the tedious 1800’s and tried to retrieve his stolen horse? This portray shows exactly what might happen. Think, for example, the cliched confrontation-in-bar-leads-to-fight scene; we naturally inquire it to waste in a brawl or shoot-out. It doesn’t. In other words, it boldly sneers at western conventions. Or how about the final shoot-out with Saxon? Some have complained that it’s uneventful. Yet, isn’t that often the procedure such death-duels ruin in Sincere life? I’ll do it this method, don’t question “The Appaloosa” to play like a Hollywood blockbuster or typical spaghetti western with corny one-liners and unrealistic or goofy action scenes. Personal Rating: 3.5/5 Stars.

Despite the fact that none of these films rate 5/5 Stars, I rate the collection itself 5 Stars because it’s a amazing assemblage of fairly obscure Brando works (I never saw ANY of these pictures prior to getting this 4-pack) .

Most people rave about Brando’s renowned films “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “The Godfather” and “Last Tango in Paris.” Personally, I’m not a fan of any of these overrated pictures, even though I admit “The Godfather” is a safe film and can scrutinize why some regard it as immense. In my understanding, beget it or not, every film in this 4-pack collection (with the possible exception of “A Countess from Hong Kong”) is better than these.
